Adult education , distinct from child education , is a practice in which adults engage in systematic and sustained self-educating activities in order to gain new forms of knowledge, skills, attitudes, or values. In particular, adult education reflects a specific philosophy about learning and teaching based on the assumption that adults can and want to learn, that they are able and willing to take responsibility for that learning, and that the learning itself should respond to their needs. Driven by what one needs or wants to learn, the available opportunities, and the manner in which one learns, adult learning is affected by demographics, globalization and technology. The World Bank 's World Development Report on The Changing Nature of Work  argues that adult learning is an important channel to help readjust workers' skills to fit in the future of work and suggests ways to improve its effectiveness. Educating adults differs from educating children in several ways given that adults have accumulated knowledge and work experience which can add to the learning experience.

Value education is the process by which people give moral values to each other. There is a difference between literacy and education. There has been very little reliable research on the results of values education classes, but there are some encouraging preliminary results. One definition refers to it as the process that gives young people an initiation into values, giving knowledge of the rules needed to function in this mode of relating to other people, and to seek the development in the student a grasp of certain underlying principles, together with the ability to apply these rules intelligently, and to have the settled disposition to do so  Some researchers use the concept values education as an umbrella of concepts that includes moral education and citizenship education    Themes that values education can address to varying degrees are character , moral development , Religious Education , Spiritual development , citizenship education , personal development , social development and cultural development.
